Meghan Markle and Prince Harry want to build a £3million home near their friend’s home.

It is claimed the royal couple are planning a rural bolthole in the picturesque Cotswolds in the English countryside.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex quit royal duties this month for a new life in Canada, vowing to become “financially independent” at the same time.

It is now reported they want to build a three-bedroom home near Soho Farmhouse – the exclusive 100-acre Oxfordshire retreat where Meghan had her three-day hen do before marrying Harry two years ago.

David and Victoria Beckham – who were invited to the royal wedding – are also having a pad built in the area.

Meghan and Harry’s other UK home is Frogmore Cottage, in Windsor, which was controversially refurbished at a cost of £2.4million to the taxpayer.

The couple later vowed to repay the cash as part of their deal to step down as senior royals.

A source told The Sun about their Oxfordshire home plans: “This house will be their bolthole when they are in the UK.

“It is costing around £3million and will be on the opposite side of the farmhouse to the small house being built for the Beckhams.”

They are reported to be planning a three-bedroom house with its own drive. The project will be privately funded, the source added.

Meghan and Harry got married in Windsor in 2018 and threw themselves into royal life.

But there was soon talk of a rift between the couple and William and Kate.

This was followed by their explosive announcement that they would step down as senior members of the royal family.

The couple completed their final official engagements during a visit to London at the start of this month and now plans to spend most of their time in Canada, where Meghan found fame starring in TV drama Suits.
